Temple Bar

Dublin’s Temple Bar pub is legendary.

I lived above it for 42 months.

Every night, a band played.

But every night, the set list stayed the same -

  1. Wild Rover

  2. Whiskey in the Jar

  3. Dirty Old Town

Etc...

The Temple Bar pub, Dublin. Ireland’s most famous watering hole

After about a week, I stopped hearing them.

Until one night, Paolo Nutini rocked up.

From my home, I suddenly heard the opening bars of Jenny Don’t Be Hasty. That familiar raspy voice. Unmistakably Paolo.

58 seconds later I was in the middle of the crowd. New Shoes, Last Request, Rewind, Candy…

Such a memorable night.

Standing still is the easiest way to fail

Interesting, isn’t it?

It’s so easy to do the same thing over and over.

There may be absolutely nothing wrong with it. In fact, it’s probably very good.

But it’s also the easiest way to fail.

All businesses have to change. Brands must adapt. Try new things in different ways.

Change is the only way to success that’s enduring, precisely because your audience is always changing. At a rate of knots.

You must move with them.

It’s not always comfortable, but it is necessary.

What do you think?
